I can tell you there is no grass growing under the feet of the WVSO staff. About once a week I get the notion that I should write a bit about all that is going on, but we have been too busy doing things to write about them.
The February week of concerts was intense--two Young People's Concerts on Wednesday, Broadway Rocks Pops concert on Friday and Saturday nights, and a Family Discovery Concert on Saturday morning sandwiched in between. Each concert had a different set of music that had to be prepared behind the scenes by our music librarian, by each individual musician, by conductors Grant Cooper and Robert Turizziani.
On this same weekend, the WVSO not only made the formal announcement of its new executive director's identity, but had David Gross and his wife Deborah (who came to Charleston sight unseen) flown in for the busy weekend. In addition to concerts, lunches, dinners and receptions, they did quite a bit of house hunting in between.
I know I was exhausted from all the activity and I didn't have to fly from Michigan at the crack of dawn on Friday morning for a whirlwind tour.
The WVSO is pleased to welcome David to his new post beginning next Monday. We will keep him busy at the office for most of the first week, getting him acclimated and, well, okay, immersed. The WVSO performs March 5 in Fairmont, March 6-7 in Charleston, and March 8 in Parkersburg. Nothing like making the rounds right from the start!
We hope you'll make David feel welcome!
